Ladies: I know you think you know what it takes to create a successful online dating profile. But if that was true, you would probably have better luck in the dating world. Many women believe in order to "advertise" themselves appropriately, they need to appeal to men in 3 ways: with sex, sports and food. So often I see a woman's profile with her looking up at the camera to show off her pretty face and nice boobs. In their list of interests they make sure to list every sport and the fact they're down with playing video games and love to cook. Don't get me wrong, I do believe there is quite a bit of truth to the saying "a way to a man's heart is through his stomach," but if that's not who you are don't lie. So often I meet guys who wonder why they can't meet a girl online who doesn't like sports and video games. Believe it or not there are a lot of guys out there who want a girl who likes to go shopping, travel, spend time with family, and go to museums.
Obviously there is a difference between someone who is looking for a long term relationship and someone who is just looking for a fling. In this case I'm suggesting that if you're a woman interested in a serious relationship you need to make your profile capture more of who you are and what makes you unique. Here are a few suggestions:
Profile Pictures - Use a variety of pictures (at least 4) in different scenes smiling (that is key) and having fun that show off who you are. Make sure at least one photo includes a full body shot.
Interests - Be brief. Guys don't want to read 3 pages about your life story. Include all of your (real) interests in your profile. Be honest about who you are and what you enjoy doing for fun. Sports are great, but if you have no desire to sit with your boyfriend and watch football every week during football season you might not want to list that as one of your favorite things to do.
Make the First Move -
Guys actually like a woman who isn't afraid to be the first person online to initiate contact. If you're disappointed with the quality of the guys who email you, don't hesitate to be the one to start up a conversation online with a guy you are interested in. Sometimes it takes putting yourself out there to find what you really want. Besides, confidence is sexy and guys like a woman who's not afraid to make the first move.
